Transfer Window Warming Up As Bale And Pepe Close On Moves

As we get to the business end of the transfer window, some big moves appear on the verge of going through.

News broke at the end of the week that Gareth Bale is about to end his time at Real Madrid by signing for Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese league where he will reportedly earn around £1 million per week.

Bale still has three years left on his Real contract and it is reported that the Spanish giants would be willing to forgo a fee to get his £25 million a season wages off the books.

Zinedine Zidane is determined to get Bale out of the club, saying recently: “We hope he leaves soon. It would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.”

Those comments led to Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett branding the Frenchman ‘a disgrace’.

Any move to Jiangsu Suning will need to be completed by Wednesday when the Chinese transfer window shuts.

The other big news over the weekend concerned Lille winger Nicolas Pepe who is closing in on a move to Arsenal.

A £72 million fee has reportedly been agreed for the Ivory Coast star who could form a deadly front three alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Given Arsenal’s limited resources in the transfer market, the Gunners will pay the fee over a number of instalments, with the deal expected to be completed over the next 24 hours.

Napoli had also agreed a fee for the 24-year-old but their proposal was rejected by the player’s camp.

Pepe tends to operate on the right wing and cut in on to his left foot, but can also be used as a striker in a 4-4-2 formation.

Arsenal also announced the loan signing of Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid in midweek along with the £27 million purchase of 18-year-old French defender William Saliba who will be loaned back to his club Saint-Etienne for a year before starting his Gunners career next summer.
